cleaning artificial plants

I clean with about 10% bleach and then soak in dechlorinated water to remove the bleach. I also let them dry out completely before returning to tank. They look brand new!

You can clean artificial plants with a mild bleach solution if you want but make sure that it is mostly water and all of the plants are rinsed very well before returning them to the tank. This also means that you must rinse your hands and arms too before putting them in the tank. If any of the bleach hits the tank you will have dead fish and will have a hard time getting the bleach out of the water . A lot of really big water changes will be in order so just be careful.

Don't go buy anything! Vinegar/water works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a hard water issue as well here in the city so I know how it goes. Need to clean them like once a month to prevent a large build up!!!

thanks everyone. I'm using vinegar and it's working just fine. I'm planning on slowly replacing my artificial plants with real ones. I have a new compact fluorescent fixture on it's way! Going from 15 watts over a 26 gal. to 65 watts. I'm planning on getting some anubias and java fern & moss to start with. Looking @ C02 also. Don't know much about it and am trying to read as much as I can.
