Cleaning driftwood

How do you clean driftwood? I have 2 big pieces I want to use but they are too big to boil and one wont fit into my oven. Any thoughts? Thank You. ~M

I would just put them in a clean bath tub, free of soap residue, or a large rubbermaid container and brush clean with hot water. The rubber maid tub is nice because you also could do a pre-soak of it there.

I agree. I have used a clean trash can as well and my bathtub. Also, were these pieces found or purchased?

I found one on the beach over a year ago and the other one I found in a bog.

You may need to saok the one from the beach to get any residual salt out. Are you sure the one from the bog is a hardwood?

The one from the bog is solid with no soft spots. Im new to driftwood so can you explain hardwood to me. The area of Maine I live in is surrounded by lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes, bogs and Im 20 min from the ocean. I like to go to these places and try to find the centerpiece for my planted tank.

hard wood usually refers to the type of wood, oak maple and such.
