cleaning driftwood.

definatly. so if i cant dip them in boiling water should i pour it over them?

side topic!

I threw some nice dry branch of maple wood down my out door pond last winter, now they are totally water logged but for some reason they smell quite bad (like rotten egg, i think it came from the muck at the bottom of my pond)

So scrubed them clean and boiled them for an hour and they've been sitting in a tub of clean water for 4 days (which I change water everyday). Ihe smell is mostly gone but if i smell them ( like putting them right in front of my nose, i still can smell it faintly)

so is it safe to add to my fish tank?

just a suggestion but if you have the medium sized presure washer you can put the boiling water in the cemical container and then you can wash with the boiling\hot water.

idk. its all plastic stuff on the washer. idk if it would melt or not.

you can also put the wood in the oven. put it on a low temp like 200-250 i think it was. keep an eye on it just incase, but leave it in there for an hour or two.

other than that..not really sure since you cant boil them, and i dont see pouring hot water on them for a minute would work well lol

a dry tree branch is not good for a fish tank unless it has actually turned into driftwood. your branch has most likely rotted due to it being submersed. i would not use the branch that you have been preparing in your tank.

i do know that some woods are not suitable for underwater use and some can actually be unsafe to use. hopefully someone with more wood know-how will come along to clarify.
