Hello,

I have a new 45gal fowlr that finished cycling about 2 weeks ago and
added a blue damsel to help 3 weeks ago to help the cycling process.
The damsel seems very happy.

The problem is I just intruduced two Clown (percula) yesterday. They
both have been hiding behind a rock since yesterday with the smaller one
peeking out once in a while. When I tried to feed them today I noticed
what could best be described as a cloudy eye on the bigger clown. Upon
closer observation I noticed he also had a little bit of the same cottony
substance on his body. Could this be something that rubbed off on him
grom the lr or is this Brooklynella. I don't think its ich from what I have read
in the post here ich is like a grain of salt and this is more spongy looking...sorry I don't have a pic.

If it is Brooklynella can it be treated with the "fresh water dips" and if
so can someone please elaborate on how they are done please. The other
clown and the damsel look and are acting fine.

One other question reguarding feeding the fish. I have some Omega One flake food and from what I remeber, when I used to have a freshwater fishtank, long time ago, I used to just sprinkle some on the top and all
the fish would swim up immediately to feed. The problem I am having is
that when I put a couple flakes for the fish the food just floats on top and
the fish don't really notice it so they don't swim up to get it. The method I have bee using until now to feed the damsel is to let the flake soak for a while till it sinks to the bottom of the tank so the damsel will notice it and
eats it.

Any advice it greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I don't know much about the disease, but I can help out with a bit on the feeding.

I use three different foods, a flake food, frozen mysid shrimp, and "seaweed salad". Using a cup, I get some of the tank water to thaw out the shrimp. I put the flake and the shrimp in that cup, and once the shrimp has been thawed, I pour it slowly into the tank. The fish take note of the food and go after it fairly quickly. The seaweed salad comes in sheets, a lot like the seaweed they use for sushi. I tear off a piece of it and, using a clip with suction cup on it, attach it to the side of the tank and let the fish graze on it. Clown fish are omnivores and will appreciate all three types of food, and the damsel should as well since they're very similar in a lot of ways. Also, watch out for aggression from the damsel, this may be why the clowns are hiding. Maybe replace the damsel with a reef chromis, as they tend to be able to draw out the shy fish. :D

feeding

:) thanks alot for the info Pablo. I will try that on their next feeding.

As far as the damsel(Bubbles), I guess I can return it but my kids have gotten attached to him since he was the first fish in our tank.

Thanks again you've been very helpful.

Well, found the clown dead this morning. I don't know what happened the other one and the damsel are fine.

how closely did you watch the clown before you purchased him? it could be possible you bought him with a parasite. i am very paranoid about getting unhealthy fish from my LFS, so I watch any fish I'm interested in for a while before purchase.

Hi my name is scott and i want to start a saltwater tank i alreaady have 3 freshwater tanks with Gobbie's, Barb's, Loache's and tetra but wanted to start a tank for a pair of knight seahorse but dont know much of the requirments of a saltwater tank if anyone can help please send any information you have to scotty2hotty_808@hotmail.com i would be only to greatful. **scotty** :D

Hey Matter, I think your right. I didn't really watch him at all. There were so many in the tank I didn't really notice anything wrong.
But good news is I went to a different lfs today and they had only two percula clowns in one tank and I watched him for about half hour before I bought him.
He has been home since this morning and he is doing fine. Since I introduced him to the tank the other clown has come out from behind the rock and they are getting along.

Thanks
