how do you treat this? i have a small (2") green terror in quarantine. he has been showing symptoms for three to four days. i have been treating with melafix per the instructions, but the cloudiness seems to be getting worse. what other treatment should i be using?

Anti-biotics. Marcyn would be my first choice. You'll need to do large water changes as the medication will kill beneficial bacteria.

ok, now i am on my fifth day of the five day treatment cycle recommended on the box of marcyn. i have been doing 40-50% water changes daily, just before putting in the medication.

the cloudy eye / pop eye only seems to be marginally better. is this something that i should continue to treat, or will it now continue to improve on its own?

the fish in question (a 2" green terror) is much more active now, and is free swimming about the tank where before, it would stay in the shade of rocks and such. i have been keeping the lights off to help de-stress, but i still turn it on once a day to check him out.

will the eye ever get back to normal?

Depends on the cause. The fish may recover, but a lot will depend on what was causing the pressure under the eye to begin with. A bacterial infection with inflammation should resolve itself and return to normal appearance. I would continue monitoring, keep the water in good shape, and see what happens. The improved bahavior indicates the fish is doing better, so it's immune system should be able to finish off the infection without further medication.
