So, I guess the title explains my problem. I there anyway of reducing the cloudiness in the tank after ive added my diamond back Goby? Im using very fine grain sand in my bed, and its just causing a mess and floating everywhere...

Any suggestions/ideas??

It will likely be that way for a while until the detritus the fish has disturbed has settled. You may want to consider a temporary filter sock or something to polish the water and remove the detritus. Just be sure to change it a bare minimum of once per week, preferably several times. The good thing is that the socks can be washed with plain bleach and a second rinse cycle and be ready to go again. Other than that, the only option is to get rid of the goby.

You may also want to consider doing some extra water changes for a little while. I know 3 people locally that added digging / burrowing gobies to their tanks after they had been running for more than a year -- all of which experienced the same thing you are with the goby stirring everything up. Each of them, due to the mixing of the sand and resuspension of detritus, ended up battling algal blooms that started shortly after introducing this type of goby. Some additional water changes will help remove some of those extra nutrients that are being resuspended in your tank.

I am expecting some algae blooms because of the digging going on and all the nutrients in the sand bed, but my main concern is the water clarity. Will it eventually settle down Amphiprion? Or will it stay this way until I use a filter sock?

It will eventually stop by itself. Filter socks and water changes simply expedite the process. It may also be worth looking into a good phosphate remover in addition to the above to control some of the algae.

Alright... I got back a few hours after the tank began to settle and it seemed like all hell had broken loose. I though a power head had turned over, but realized that they were all in place.. I guess its the Diamond back going at it... tank is really a MESS... cant wait for things to calm down..

Any idea when things should settle? I was also considering buying some gravel to lay on top of my sand bed.. Kind of like create a second gravel bed on top of my sand bed, to prevent the Goby's from making a mess.. Hows that for a solution?

I experienced the exact same thing. My tank had been set up for some time and I added a Diamond Watchman Goby (Valencienna puellaris) and I too thought that the tank was doomed. I took one of my extra Phosban reactors and loaded some filter floss in it and let the reactor run for a few hours and it seemed to help quite a bit. The water changes really helped and I was frustrated by the algae blooms that I had but they subsided.

My sand bed is a combination of oolitic aragonite (little spheres) and sugar sand for my wrasses that bury. Hope this helps, there is an end to the cloudiness in sight, just take a while.

Yeh thats the thing, is the cloudiness being caused by the really fine sand bed I have? Or is it due to the Phosphate/etc?? Because the cloudiness seems to vary.. In the morning after the Goby has been hiding all night, the water seems to have settled quite a bit.. So I believe the cloudiness is due to teh sand.. And if the goby keeps digging, then the sand will keep being lifted up into the tank.. Make sense or am I missing a point here?

Not entirely. The cloudiness is actually due to the detritus deposits and some ultra-fine sediment (like some of the powdery sediment in sand that gets poured in with the rest). The detritus tends to do this the most and will also introduce bacteria into the water column (and bound phosphate--PO4 itself doesn't cloud the water), which can multiply and make the cloudiness worse.

ahaaa... so my assumption is wrong! I guess I'll wait it out and keep on my water changes... How long should I expect this to last? And will Purigen help eliminate the Bacteria arising?
