It won't really help with the bacteria, but it will help with any other small organic molecules that might discolor the water, as well as any other organically bound molecules.
Heh, good question. Depending upon how extensive deposits are and the size of the goby, I would say anything from a few days to at least several weeks.
ooh oooooouch! :'( Weird part is that I've been noticing the sand ON my corals... which is kinda the result of the Goby lifting that sand all over the place... Im just very confused... Ill give it a week or two and see how it goes from there... hopefully there will be progress... either that, or catch the goby! *WHICH CANNOT BE FUN*!
Yeah, they can be messy. They have a bad habit of swimming up in the water column and then releasing their mouthful of sand. They also like to do this in strong current, just because it annoys you the most. At least that is what I've always noticed.
Their other lovely trait is they love to dig little caves all over. Which pushes sand mound out and they don't care what they cover up when they do it. My goby really annoyed my clam by spitting all the sand on it...so it (clam) moved. My episode lasted several weeks and that is why I used the phosban reactor as a mechanical filter of sorts. Seemed to help. Good luck, it will settle down in time and once the goby has gotten up all the debris and detritus that you didn't realize existed in your tank.
Ah greg, if your tank plays a big role in your life, you DONT want to add this guy... My tank has been messy for three days and its driving me NUTS!! But im patiently waiting it out... Hoping for the best, as soon as possible! haha! But thanks for the advice guys! Ill just be patient and wait this guy out...
things are finally starting to clear up a little bit.. pretty clear in the AM, then gets a little messy during the day... going for a water change in a bit, 20% for now..
I am willing to bet you didn't prep your sand before putting it in initially(rinsing it in a bucket). That and detritus build up over time as your tank matured.
The phosban reactor is a great idea...stuff it with phosban and charcoal ..the filter socks are great idea to.
I don't see why you have so much hate for the lil dude! I love those guys. they keep your sand pretty =)..
its actually good though if you look at the brighter side... detritus trapped in sand can be a later problem waiting to jump out and **** you off.
In the end I think you will appreciate lil dude as you see how pretty your sand is ..as he keeps it turned over.
