I have restarted my 100 gallon, it is equiped with a MAGNUM 350 deluxe canister filter [ running carbon container and filter sleeve over it] and 1 powerhead with a foam filter attached to it. I have 20 small starter fish in it and my water has started to look a little cloudy, not a lot, but just a little. should i be running the carbon at this time, or should i switch to the micron filter that comes with the magnum that says it polishes the water to clear it up ? i am feeding them small amounts of food just enough for them to eat in about 5 minutes. how long will the water stay cloudy ?

It sounds like a bacterial bloom and it will clear up in a few days. I personally have always run carbon from the day I turned the filter on, unless I was medicating. So I would. I don't think you should add anything to clear the tank, that will happen as the food source for the bacteria runs out.

cloudy water

thanks grassguy, the tank is only on it's 3rd day so i think it will be ok then. thanks for the info.

thanks

yep, i think it should clear up in a week or so, i have 20 tetras as starter fish [berry tetras] and they seem to be doing fine just not eating a whole lot, temp. is at 78 degrees they have a lot of room to swim[100 gallons] and plenty of cover and they are exploring all over the tank.:)
