Noticed that sometims when i make a water change, my tank will be cloudy? what could be the cause of this?
i just changed 30 % of my tanks water and the tank turned cloudy.

How big is your tank? How long has it been up and running? What are the inhabitants? Does it sit near a window? Do you have live plants and use artificial lighting, if so, how long each day are the lights on? What type of substrate do you have? There are a lot of reasons for the tank to get cloudy and we need more information to be able to help. The questions above are probably just a start for what folks will want to know.

How often are you doing water changes, and are ou using a gravel vac when you do it? The most likely cause is you just stireed up the detrius/fish waste in the substrate, cuasing the water to be cloudy.

Your filter system will dictate how much waste and detrius there is on the bottom of the tank; an efffective mechanical filter will reduce how much waste there is to be stirred up, while an innefctive mechanical filter (but effective biofilter) such as a bublble filter will allow more waste to settle on the substrate.

I sometimes also get this due to the tap water I use. I have an older well system and the buildup of calcium and other materials sometimes will do this. It also seems to be more noticeable when I add the hot water to the mix. If you have older plumbing that may also be the cause.

I’m not disagreeing with the above just simply giving another option as the above are true.

I have this well water issue also. It also depends on how much water has been used in our household lately. If we water our lawn or garden a lot, it stirrs up our well, and we get lots of sand in our water. I think it is a little worse this year because it is so dry around here. It looks horrible, but it settled out in a few days. My fish didn't seem to mind. I can't imagine it was good for them though.

thanks, tanks has been running for a year or more.
inhabitants are 2 8 inch arowanas , 11 pcs silver dollar 3 inches.
3 small plecos and a pir of green severums.

tank is a 300 gallon 8x2x2ft tank.
filtration is 4 ft overhead filter with 15 gallon sump tank and 3 internal power filters.

the tank is outdoors and recieves morning sunlight. but no algae problems.

its a bare buttom tank so its easier to clean with 2 pcs huge driftwoods.

i sometimes notice cloudiness even with my other tanks.
out tapwater is chlrinated , but i use a dechlorinator .

after a few hours thetank clears up again.
but i've noticed before when changing more than 50 % water , there seems to be slime or wgite stuff buildup on the glasses , what could be the cause?
