Cloudy water!! Help!!

Hello! I just upgraded my aquarium and now my water is cloudy. I used to have a 30 gal. hexagon tank and yesterday switched to a 70 gal bow front corner tank. I am using on establisted filer and one new filer and this evening my water went cloudy. I did add some nitraban this afternoon (which I have never used before) but other than that I am not sure what it causing it. I did add 4 small new fish today but I checked all of my levels and they are all normal! Please help! Should I start doing partial water changes or should I give it a couple of days?

Sounds like a bacterial bloom....give it a few days and it should clear up.

Just keep testing daily and do any water changes needed if levels get wacky

Was just a guess....might not be what it is that is why I mentioned just to keep testing and be sure levels are safe for the fish.

But I have had clear water one day and have a bloom the next after doing a very good deep gravel vac...so could be possible since it is basically a new bigger tank.
 
im not saying its NOT what it is, its just that since it IS a new tank. I wouldnt think the bacteria would multiply that fast if he just set it up yesterday? maybe a few days or a week maybe but one day? Im new so I could be wrong it just seems fast to me.
 
Thank you for your advise. I did add some bacterial boosting stuff when I set up the tank, maybe that is what is causing this mess! I also used most of the water from my establisted tank and added new to fill the rest of the tank, would that have hurt anything?
 
No, that is great. It probably IS a bacterial bloom then. Your new tank should be pretty much, if not completely cycled :)

New tank with established media plus fish....would probably cause a bacteria bloom
 
using an established filter; could easily be a bloom.

otherwise, I don't know whether you rinsed out your substrate etc; could just be some very small particles/dissolved matter. Either way should be settling down for you very quickly anyway.
 
Thanks everyone! I this morning the tank did look a little clearer, so hopefully it is going to clear up soon. Should I replace my old filter media in the tank? I left the one that was in my old tank in there to help get the "good bacteria" going.
