the water in my 55 gallon just got cloudy the outher day....i was told it was a alge bloom.....but i was wondering if it was the sponges i have in my filter...i put them in their about 2 weeks ago to seed them to help cycle my 125 tank.....cause i have the sponges and the filter cartages in my filter ?
oh and will the bacteria grow even if theirs no heaters in the tank yet?

maybe

it maybe what you where told ( algae bloom ) or it could very well be what you think . . . however there are 3 other possibilities.

it could be motile bacteria which is completley harmless to the fish but causes the water to go cloudy. this is caused by over feeding.

it could be a toxic build up of amonia wich is extremley harmfull to the fish . . . chek if they ich their gills as a sign for this.

or it could be a product which you are puting into your tank water. i know that a product i sell called waterlife p.h buffer does indeed make the water go cloudy for a day or so because the salts in the water wich are being taken apart by the buffer have no where to go, so they hang about in your tank, clearly visible by you.

:D , hope you found this usefull,
anything else that you want to know, just ask

dave . . .

well i feed them a mixture of brine shrimp and beefheart and flakes....seems to be what they like......i might of overfeed...theirs like a haze over the top of the water....
