another water clearity thread, but if anyone knows i'd be very appreciative....everytime i do a partial water change my water clouds up and NEVER gets clear again until weeks and weeks later after using "jungle" water clear. And that only lasts for about a week before it clouds up again. My 10 gal is always crystal clear i do everything the same in it...WHATS WRONG W/ MY 30 GAL!!!??? Its been cloudy for months now, water changes up to 50% dont make a diff. and i'm not sure if i should go more than that, ive tried 15% all the way up to 50 over the past months. HELP!

Can you post your water parameters?

Hmmm...thats why i guess i'm in the newbie section, by parameters do you mean nitrate nitrite amonia levels and all that stuff? I havent had a chance to get my own kit, the guys at the LFS said its been fine every week for the past year...which now from what you guys/gals have been saying sounds like they are wrong...so tonight i will get my own kit and post whatever parameters you need to know? LOL let me know if this isnt what your looking for.

Yep, thats what I meant, get nitrite, amonia and nitrate at the very least, ph would be good also. Unfortunately sometimes the folks at the LFS are useless, and what is "fine" to them, might not be so fine for your fish and they just don't know any better. There is nothing wrong with having them test your water, just ask for exact numbers. www.bigalsonline.com has the aquarium pharmaceuticals master test kit for very cheap, probably a lot cheaper than the store, so you might be better off to have them test for you this time, get numbers, and order the kit online, or at least compare the prices!!

Also, has the tank been up and running for a year? Have you had this problem the whole time? is it a white cloudy, or a green cloudy? How are the fish doing?

Tank has been set up since last Christmas. The irridescent sharks are doing great! always swimming full of energy, i had 2 silvertips, one recently died, but the other seems like he's doing alright, seems to get tired a little faster but otherwise he looks healthy too...the tank is deffinatly not green cloudy, i'd say more of a cloudy sky grey, opposed to white, but of the two i'd go towards cloudy white. Since Christmas, it took the first 3 months to get established, i lost pateince the beginning of the fourth month and put in a chemical that Jungle makes called "clear water" or something like that, and it worked great crystal clear for about 2 weeks, then it went back to cloudy, same color cloudy for the entire year. On and off to, water changes, always cloudy after, give it month or two and then use the chemical again, clears for a week or two and then gets cloudy again. I'll check out that site now for the test kit. Thanks for the help.

P.S...i'm looking around the site now, which kit do you recommend for the important numbers i should know? Thanks again.

What kind of filtration do you have on your tank? The important numbers that you need are, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.Ammonia and nitrite should be at 0 ppm and somr kind of nitrate reading, nitrates should be kept under 20 ppm.

what kinds of decorations do you have? any kind of natural rock or maybe some kind of cemented sand cave?

Filtration is an aqua clear, cant remember the model number but i know its for the next size up, i think for tanks between 20 and 50 gallons. And being that mine is a 30gal i figured i'd be fine, a few weeks ago i just hung the next size down at the other end of the tank just for a little extra filtration but i havent noticed a difference yet. As for decorations, i have a ship wreck (plastic) 2 plastic plants, and one of those rock caves in the middle for the cray to hide in....all this stuff has been in the tank from day one. I have the SAME exact setup in my 10 gallon though just smaller in size obviously and its been crystal clear since day one. I dont get it. Same water, same kind of filter, just different fish.

That is the kit you want.I got mine from Petsmart for 15.00.I looked at their online price, printed it out and they matched the online price, otherwise it was like 25.00.I've saved a ton of money buying things from Petsmart this way.
