Clown and heater?

Seems like all my creatures love my heater. My crabs like to jab at it and my snails like to cruise around on it. However, now my clown appears to be following the trend. I got my clown about 5 days ago. He is eating wonderfully and likes to poke at things in the tank. But I just have one small concern. He really seems to like hanging around my heater. His favorite spot is at the very top. He likes to nip and rub against it, is this normal behavior? He spends lots of time there, but will also take small trips around the tank.
 
what is your water temperature? Fish will sometimes hang out close to your heater if the tank temperature is too low.
 
If it's the tank in your sig I doubt it's from water temperature. My clowns have taken a liking to my overflows. :rolleyes: They almost always like to hang up on top and just prefer certain areas. I wouldn't worry about it.

I do believe there are heater guards you can buy but I don't know too much about them.
 
I dont think the temperature has anything to do with it. My clown loves my heater and sleeps at the top of the heater at night. Just as 5xevy has said, some clowns will adopt heaters, overflows, and maxijets as there safety areas. Anyways i hope this helps.

My temperature is always at a constant 80C.

Safety area? That actually seems like what he has adopted it as. When he wants to explore he will slowly venture into the new area, then he will dash right back to the heater and give it a kiss. Weird, but cute ^^

Thanks for the help everyone. He has actually started to explore more. I think he has taken a interest in my dusters. He likes to swim by them when they pop out.

Yup, you are right on the mark. I will definitely get a heater guard. Too many of my creatures seem to like my heater. I am tempted to get a mini fish sign that says "Caution: Hot" to place in the sand right next to the heater :P

For a special fish though. He is so gosh darn cute. I always laugh when I see him swim. His little butt moves so fast. I really wish there were more species of clowns. It would be great to see some different colors and designs with the same body shape.

Really? I know about 4 different species. Any of the ones you know have different colors other than brown, orange, red or yellow? I would love to see a clown fish that is much different from the norm.
