Clown Knifefish?

I wouldn't have one in a 90 gallon.

They are very sensative and need special care until they get larger. Once they do get large they become very aggressive and will eat anything they can get in their mouth.

If you can get it to eat well when small, then it will grow very quickly. But, most people cannot get their small Clown Knife to eat and end up losing them.

Do some searching on Google and you will find plenty of info.

Some guy just brought a 24" clown knife into my lfs because he could no longer afford to keep it. He said it ate atleast $20 worth of food each week. He also said they get as big as 4' long. I think you'd need something alot bigger than a 90g tank.

Yes, I thought of that.

Well, I definately want something unusual to add to my fishtank, so I was leaning toward either:

A Black Ghost Knife
An African Knife
A Black Devil Stingray
A Dwarf Snakehead
A Mottled Stingray

I would prefer 1) To keep with my tank theme, which is "Piscine Species from the Americas"

and, of course, I need something that won't kill or be killed by my Oscar, Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, Pleco and/or Pictus Catfishes.

Sounds like quite a load already. You sure you want to add another fish to all that? I have a 150 with half that and feel it's overloaded. The knife fish are the same as an arowana in the fact that it will get big quick and will grow very large. If you do get him, plan on another tank within the next year, I know I plan on a new one. :p

Most stingrays will get to big for a 90g, they need a large foot print but very little overhead space.

Knifes are from Africa, and therefor wouldn't fit into your theme. Another problem is I don't think they are big on defending themselves, and are rather shy fish, they would probably be killed by stress or another fish before long.

Black ghosts are sensitive fish and therefore should be kept in species tanks, or at least tanks which revolve around them. (as previously stated).

The only one there which I think would have a chance is the snakehead. They are escape artists so a good cover is needed.

However, your tank is pretty much stocked up full, as travelinman said.

Well, the only snakehead that would fit in my tank would be a dwarf snakehead and those are kind of rare to find in pet stores.

Yeah, I'm aware that my tank has enough fish to live comfortably in a 90g tank. I don't want to force myself to have to get a 108g. I swore I'd only go as high as a 77g, and I've already broken that promise.

It's just that the allure to add "just one more fish" is quite overwhelming.

i got my clown knife when it was about 4 inches(9 months ago) and kept it with a lot of other fish in a 55 gallon i got a 232 gallon when the knife was about 8-9 inches now he is about 13 inches still growing but they do not eat a lot and they are not agressive however he seems to do fine with all my other fish......10inch red tail cat, 9inch golden knife, 2, foot long florida gars, 12inch arowana, and a little toad fish er freshwater lion fish
