OMG!! I witnessed the deed!!! Twice.

I doubt anything will come of it, but I was really surprised.

I Was under the assumption they dont breed w/o certain hormones in the water.

Well there was definitely some hugging going on.

They are probably a year old. I bought them pretty small last year.

I would say they are three inches long.

Most clown loaches do not reach sexual maturity till they are over 6 inches.

Do you have a link? :read:

I suspect you might not have seen what you think you saw. My clown loaches frequently drop over on their sides or back when another approaches. Sometimes one may hover over or actually briefly rest on the reclining fellow. My largest one actually rests on the back of my chinese algae eater at times; looks likes she's giving a massage.

What do I know though, it's not impossible.

Did you see them displaying and circling each other? Perhaps even the dark bands turned gray?

If that's what you saw, then your clowns were just trying to figure out who will be the dominant loach of the group, not mating.

I agree with the above posts; my research has found that 3" is too small for sexual maturity.
