SPeaking of advice from pet stores...there is a sticker on the pacu tank at PEtsmart here in town that says great for desktop tanks!!

I agree, C. Loaches grow very slow. My LFS has about 20 in a species 100g display only tank. They are all around 16 years old and the largest is a nicely filled out 5 inches. I have seen a 12 inch C. Loach at another FS that was reported to be 40 years old. He was in a 500g with a 4ft Arowana! Anyway, since they grow so slowly, if you want C. Loaches get them (even if you just have a 20g).
A group of Clown Loaches won't do well in a 20g tank for very long.
That LFS having 20- 16 year old clowns in 100g tank is appalling IMO. Clowns need lots of space.

Perhaps that 100g tank is connected to a large Reservoir, sump, or has Central filtration?
