"Skinny" clown loaches should never be purchased--they invariably die.
Healthy clown loaches are robust, active, and do not "flash"--that is, rub themselves on rocks or ornaments trying to remove parasites.
I would not add anything to your tank until you are sure there is no disease present.
Solitary clown loaches in a tank will survive, it's just that their behavior is very much enhanced by company of their own kind.
And they will get large and need a big tank. Unfortunately, getting them to settle in and start growing up is the first (and major) hurdle with these fish in the home aquarium.
