Clown loaches aggressive toward angel

Also, you may not actually be seeing true "nipping". Clown loaches, like sidthimunkis have stiff barbels, not soft like cory barbels. So when these loaches get very close to other fish in play, their barbels are going to hit the other fish before the mouth does and I call it "prickling". My sids prickle my albino cories and it must feel like a tiny pin prick. There's never any fin damage though. Are you actually seeing fin damage?

Sophiered, I had a common striped angel bought at the same time and size as the black but it didn't last 6 weeks. I've now always been afraid to put another angelfish in. This may have helped my choice on the clowns. While looking at a larger feature fish, I was looking at some africans but of course they didn't suit the water in this tank. I like the loaches 'personality'.

pinkertd, I did see damage and witnessed the crime. I think it was nipping but there's a chance I'm mistaken. There was also some fin deterioration that looked like fin rot and it cleared up within a couple of days of getting the water back to normal.

This morning I saw the angel put one of the loaches in its place. Didn't make a big deal out of it, which is good but I still wonder what's happening when I'm not there.

I've been waiting and re-cycling my QT before I get any new fish and the loaches have been behaving a little more settled just lately. When they see me coming they might come by and parade in front of the glass. It's almost as if they're saying 'look, no ich' XD. They are bright now with solid stripes.

Clown loaches can be very "playful". They seem to really do no damage, but I have one that love to torment my tinfoil barbs. The clown thinks it a big game to chase them around and see them run.
