I am going to be moving very soon and I am taking my 75g tank with me. My question is: Are clown loaches hard on plants? I will be using sand as a substrate for my new setup and I am hoping for a moderately planted tank. Right now, I have several java fern, an anubia and some type of sword plant(not sure of the name, it was a gift). My tank is stocked with cardinals, harlequins, balas,rummy-noses, rainbows, ottos, two shrimp and a couple of silver-tip tetras. I really like the look of the clown loaches but I like the plants better. Would they up root my plants?

nope, havent had a problem with my loaches uprooting anything
They MAY poke holes when they are probing for snails to munch, but I find the biggest purp in plant munching or uprooting is my apple snail

Clown loaches are used by some people in large plant tanks as a means of snail control, and as far as I know, they do not eat plants. They should be just fine with your plants.

I have 4 clown loaches in my 55g. I originally thought they were responsible for many of my plants being uprooted but its probably my plecos.

As clowns get larger they will crush/bulldoze more delicate plants. I have also had them actually transplant part of a crypt clump. It isn't in a spot where I would have put it, but then they live in the tank not me.
clown loaches love snails. So would suspect they are good for planted tanks, and I have seen the lfs I go to for my fish keeps "store pets" clowns in there plant tank for snail control
