Clown Loaches that Don't Eat Snails

Ahem.

About 20 odd years ago I was out with my driving instructor (Defensive Driving) and he told me to take the old Highway 6 to Hamilton. Double lane road, was considered a "major" highway until they built some new ones. Anyhow, we drove out to Morriston, about 20 mins and turned around to come back.

Dunno how fast I was going, but it was the speed limit, then I saw something on my side of the road. Something kinda flat and roundish, looked like a hubcap. Two of them. Was too late for me to avoid it, so I just drove over it.

I'll never forget the noise they made. Kinda like a very loud, but hollow-sounding KRUUUUNCH, FOOOP! KRUUUUNCH, FOOOOOOOOOOP!

I really cannot type anything that would duplicate the noise I heard.

I pulled over and almost vomited. I had run over two VERY large turtles. Never seen such large -- or flat -- turtles in my life. I *think* they were snapping turtles, but they could have been painted turtles. They were as large as one of those old VW hubcaps all squished flat.

It was the noise they made when I ran over them that affected me so much, not so much the sight. I could deal with that. But, the noise was something I have never heard before and never want to hear again.

I keep thinking about those turtles everything I think of squishing a snail.

So, ferget it.
