In my opinion, after seeing both sides, I think clown loaches in a Malawi tank is ill-advised and although many cichlid-keepers claim they've done it successfully, it doesn't mean the fish is happy or completely healthy.
So good news... my local Rift Lake cichlid breeder is ordering me in three Synodontis njassae, the Malawi catfish! Now that's a match to my bio-type if I ever saw one.
