I put a clown pleco in my Amazon tank a few weeks ago. He was around and didn't move much for a week - just clung to the driftwood. And then he was out and about and seemed fine after his adjustment period. Then I didn't see him. I figured he found a place to hide that I just couldn't see, so I look every day to find him, and nothing. It's been a good week now since I've seen him. He's just not there!! At least as far as I've been able to tell! I tried searching for him behind the driftwood with my plant tongs, to see if he'd dislodge and swim to some other haven, but no such luck. There's no place at the top that he could have gotten out at. The only opening is where the filter is, and that's JUST big enough for the water to come into it.
So where oh where can my pleco be? I use Eco-Complete - is it possible he's buried himself somewhere in that, since it's a fairly fine substrate? And if, gods forbid, he's dead, (there's no sign of that in my ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, though), where would his body be? I should be able to find him, yes? I've got a prefilter sponge on the intake, so he couldn't have gotten sucked up to, or into, the filter, even in bits and pieces. :eek3:
