Hi Friends !

I have these 2 x 2" Clown Plecos in my new 300 Lit (4 feet) tank along with 12 Cardinals, 4 bronze corys, 4 Ghost Shrimps and 2 Otos.

Just wanted to request for some advice on the Care and Feeding of the Clwon Plecos, so that I can take better care of them. Kindly advice.

Thanks and Regards
Kush

Clown Plecos are really really shy and will come out only at night, atleast thats what the books say.. I have a clown pleco for a few months now and I will say that hes the whole opposite of being shy..
Now for some tips... Make sure you have a few hiding places in the tank for him, add some softwood to the tank so he can chew on it when he pleases.. And for regular feeding you can try algae wafers, vegies, mine goes crazy over a blanched cucumber.

Mine stay under the mopani wood mainly during the day. The only veggie they really seem to love is spinach. I'm trying different veggies, but I think they want the spinach instead and are snubbing everything else.

I'm trying carrot today. :headshake2:

They also enjoy shrimp pellets and algae wafers.

There's two species that often get listed as clown plecos. One is panaque maccus, the most common found, also called ringlet pleco. If you have ringlets, you have to have wood, as the panaque species actually needs to eat it to remain healthy. They also nibble on everything else listed above, but wood is a must.

The other species is pekolitia.. I think that's how it's spelled. More of a meaty biased omnivore.

I've kept both types of plecos, all great fish. They need some good hiding places, as stated above, and they may get less shy once they have settled in.
