I rescued a Cinnamon Clown a couple days ago from a friends tank. His nitrate was off the chart and he asked me to take him

the fish seemed surprisingly healthy for about 2 days.. but today he is swimming vertically with his head upright. Breathing normally and even ate a bit

water readings are fine

Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- .25
PH- More than 8.0 (highest my test reads)

what should I do?

I should also mention.. that this fish was very underfed-- my friend (not to bright) was feeding him frozen cocktail shrimp like once every two weeks... and also had him in a tank with gravel and no live rock (dont worry I made him take his tank down and took his stock)

maybe swim bladder disease due to me feeding him normally and he over ate?

I have no way of quarentining him as this is my only SW tank...

nobody? its been almost 24 hours and he is still acting the same

no worse no better

PLEASE HELP! lol

My guess is it is probably just shock to the change in water parameters and living conditions. He may bounce back, maybe not. If the clown was living in your friends tank for a while there is a good chance that he may have "adapted"(said loosely for lack of a better word) to that condition of living and now being placed in a different tank may have taken toil on his system. No marine expert but thats just what I have noticed from other fish in the same type of situations. Good luck, hope the clown makes it.

yeah thats kinda what I was thinking too... I was also wondering if the clowns lack of food-- and then sudden change in diet may have caused a swim bladder issue

not sure-- but I have to go out of town tomorrow.. so hopefully he is alive when I return

Coat his food with fresh cinnamon.

HE LIVES!!!

When I got home he was swimming all over... I guess hes fine

now I have a Diatom bloom to deal with.. lol

It was the cinnamon, wasn't it?

It was the cinnamon, wasn't it?

acctually I never got around to trying that-- I left before I got a chance to read the post

I came home with the intent of either finding him dead, or trying the cinammon-- but to my surprise he was doing ok

thanks for the advice- and I still may try this method to keep him in good health
