Clowns

Just got a question for all of you keeping percula clowns.

I have two clowns. Each of which are 3 months old and introduced to the tank at the same time. One is larger (female?) and the other is smaller (male?). The smaller one has been "shuttering" next to the larger one in what I assume is some sort of submission maneuver. They continue to fight and have gotton to the point where their lips are all white. Is this type of behavior natural or should I remove one of them? Has anyone else experienced this??

If the amount of fighting they have has been on the decline I'd say they'll work it out. It sound to me like the male is excepting the dominace of the female and she should figure it out. Sometimes though they won't except the male at all and you'll have to take one of them out of the tank. You'll know pretty quick which way it's going to be trust me. If you have to seperate the two with a clear plastic critter keeper and that will also sometimes help the situation. It will give her a little more time to except him as her mate.

when you buy a pair and you want them to be together, than you should always buy them as a mated pair, ie. they are in the same tank by themselves in the shop. If you buy two different ones, than there is a big chance of troubble. But if they do like eachother, than give it a few weeks, one of them have to change sex, give it time.

Thanks for the info, I will keep my eye on them for a little longer and hope they quit screwing around. I would hate to give one up!

I have also put my female in "fish jail," which was a net breeding container, when she was too aggressive toward the male. After a few days, she seems to calm down.

Lol, Dave that's what I was getting at . I just put my male into protective custody ," he was easier to catch," next to my bta and well he grew on her. She'd normally ignore me when I had my my hand in the water until one day I picked up the critter keeper. Nope no messing with her beau she went after it was so funy, I let him go then and Ozzie and Harriet D Clown have been happy ever since.
