pH changes caused by CO2 do not harm fish. And you can drop the pH quite rapidly with no harm to the fish. You can do a 1° drop in an hour and do no harm to the fish.

This of course assumes that your tank is not low on O2 to start with.

I have had a problem with algae lately so I want to try CO2 to give my plants a boost. Problem is how do I acclimate my fish to the pH change.

Put the reactor into the tank for a little at a time over a few days???

I have Discus and they are touchy fish.

I have pressurized co2 injection in my discus tank and they're fine. I have a DIY reactor connected to the output of my magnum canister filter. I got the plans for the reactor off of Rex Griggs' site and it works very well. I run 25-30 ppm and have for three years, now, which drops the ph a full log, from 7.6 to 6.6. My discus don't seem to notice it, but the plants love it.
