Hi Friends,

I have a few Vals and Anubias in my 4 Feet, 50 Gallon Tank. I have 3 x 30W Flr.Lights.

I really want the Vals to grow well and just wanted to know if my light is enough. Also wanted to know if CO2 is required for the Vals to grow well ? Kindly guide me.

Thanks and Regards
Kush

They'll grow faster w/ CO2, but it is not needed.

Once they get rooted, they'll grow several CM per day under good light, even w/ no added CO2. If you need faster growth, a lighting upgrade would probably be more important than adding CO2 at this point.

Hi there !

Thanks a lot for the kind reply. Actually this is an Acrylic tank it came with a molded hood. I'm afraid there is no space to add more lights... Anyways, will this light be enough for them to survive atleast ?

Also how much time does it take for them to get rooted well ? Kindly guide me... Thanks again...

Thanks again for the kind reply. Actually I planted these about 10 days ago but they still havent shown any signs of great growth. The old leaves which were in very bad shape have died off and new leaves are beginning to appear. But again , these new leaves are just like that (no growth) since last 4 to 5 days... I'm not sure if they're doing well or not... Does new leaves mean that the plant has rooted ?

Also wanted to know if Vals will have strong root system ? I'm asking this because they're in my Frontosa/ brichardi tank and they dig a lot... Will the vals be able to hold themselves well, when established ?

Kindly guide me...

I have Vals that are doing very well in two of my 29"s. I'm not familiar with the habits of the fish you mentioned, but you can see the roots and the runners that they send out. Mine are well established. Perhaps from these pics you can tell if they will work out for you. :) IMG_1205.JPG

Once well established, they should be able to stand up to some abuse. They're not Swords, but they do develop some pretty healthy roots and runners.

Give it a month before worrying about quick growth setting in.

I've never had problems growing vals without Co2, in fact I've found them to be the fastest plant to grow in low tech setups. I've kept them in under 1 wpg with no problems.

Wow thats really encouraging ! I'm so relieved because I cant afford a Co2 system now and I want the Vals to grow really well. I guess I'll wait for them to get established and the see if they grow well...

Also wanted to mention that the Lights that I have are the ones that came with the tank - 3 feet tube lights, 30W each and they have a Pinkish / Bluish color - Are these ok to grow Vals ? Kindly advice...

Thanks a lot for all the help and kindness, Friends... I'm really grateful :)
