So i finally started my DIY co2 on my 5g-5.2wpg and my 10g-1.5wpg.

i have a 2L on each tank.

i have wooden airstones under each of my whisper 10 filters which are foamed.

so the bubbles very finely come out and stay under the foam block, some i think get sucked in and disapear.

but i dont have any bubbles going to the surface at all. they stay under the foam block and go into the foam or grow then shrink like under the foam.

at night i was think of turning my airstones on to battle ph swings and whatnot. would this be ok?
 
no counter. i read thru most site,threads, ect; that you cant really overdose with DIY.

most gets wasted anyhow thru gas exchange at the surface.

but i have NO surface agitation and again the bubbles (very fine) stay under the filtered intake until they get eaten into the foam and disapear.
 
Just hook the CO2 line to the intake. Also, a 2 litter bottle ( 2 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon of active yeast, hot water ) is meant for a 30g - 60g tank. You can't do all the CO2.
 
if you straight hook the co2 line to the intake it will suck up the mixture.
and i use the airstone right below it to catch em and suck them in.

i cant do all the co2 what do you mean?
 
Also, ya need to keep ferts, light, and CO2 in balance.

your mix for the 2L is 2 high so maybe you found it to be 2 much for your tank, and your not supposed to use HOT water since that kills the yeast. for tanks 30+ they say that diy co2 will not be effective so hes not doing anything wrong. Though the co2 line to the intake is a good way of mixing the co2 in the water.

Though on his 5g tank that might be just a bit 2 much even with a weak mixture since the smaller the tank the more unbalanced it can get with ph
 
If he uses 2 cups sugar, 1 tablespoon of active yeast, & hot water in a 2 litter bottle for a 10gallon tank, yes that is to much, not to mention the smaller one.

are you checking the ph? chcek it in the morning mid day night in the middle of the night if you can. i think with a whisper filter you dont have to worry. even with the water all the way up to the lip your still should be getting plenty of surface agitation.

20-30 gal max. after that you have so many diy co2 bottles it justs isnt worth it. depending how efficiently the co2 is getting into the water even for a 2.5 it might not be too much.
