i set up a DIY co2 system yesterday and there is still nothing coming out of it. i put 2 cups water, 2 cups sugar, 1/3 tsp. yeast into a 2 liter bottle. why is nothing being made??

OK, a couple of things could be wrong...

What was the temperature of the water that you added? make sure it's about 120 degrees.

Did you dissolve the yeast in water before mixing the whole concoction together? It may be clumped.

Is your yeast too old? It may not be active.

Finally, do you have a leaky DIY system? You may be losing your CO2.

I'd be fairly sure it's a leak in your system - I remember I was super sure that I had NO leaks.

But I did

I put the tube into the water, and it kept the air in the tube... but the air slowly started retreating toward the top of the tankline, thus proving I had a leak.

If you're using superglue to keep the line from leaking, don't use it, it leaks WAY too easily.

Other than that, I second what the others have said.

ok i am sure that there are no leaks cause i used a ton of silicone to make it not leak. and when i mixed the yeast i put it in about 110 degree water for five minutes to activate it then poured it into the water/sugar mixture. the yeast was probably 5-9 months old.

Not sure why everyone is placing so much stress on the temperature. Sure it plays a role but from personal experience you dont have to be anal about it. I had made the mixture many times before and not once did i take a thermometer and test for the temp. As long as its lukewarm water, the yeast is fresh and you add the proper ratios of everything, you should get output after hours of it being made.
From looking at your recipe, i believe your ratio of water/sugar/yeast is off. For a 2L bottle you can fit about 5-6 cups of water, so not sure why you are using only 2.

When i hydrated my yeast i activated it in the same sugar/water mix.

The water I add is warm to the touch. I never check the actual temp either.

I agree that your mix may be off, it doesn't seem like enough water. Check for leaks as well and make sure you activate the yeast beforehand. I just let it sit in the same water I use for a little while then add the sugar and more water...
