CO2 or other possible

You're not crazy. But I'm using sugar and yeast w/ a pop bottle and an airline into my canister filter inlet as my CO2 injection system, and boy were the results noticeable. I've only got one old 24" T8 tube on my 38-gallon tank, and I've had to do some heavy pruning on my swords. Eventually had to transplant one that overran the 38-g tank and cut it into three pieces for my 100-gallon tank.

You're crazy only if you use my setup and deem that the alcoholic solution produced by fermentation is tasty enough to use as an after-dinner imbibement. By the way, I took a sniff and was tempted.....

Since I'm not going to inject right away, and I'll be setting up the 75 sometime this week, I was wondering thoughts on substrate.

I was going to go fluorite and sand.

Could I bypass flourish excel if I did this:

1 inch fluorite, 1 inch eco, 1 inch sand and in what order would you put them?

I've thought about it and I'll probably still need excel, but what about the substrate, that a good order or would you go with the eco on the bottom?

edit: While I'm asking...If I have swords, stem plants, java fern and moss, microsword and clover enough to cover 50% of the floorplan and I go 2.5 wpg without CO2 will I have an algae problem?
