CO2 tablets?

I have a micro tank (five gallons). I dont really want to have a CO2 system that takes as much room as the tank. I was wondering if this would work:

Mount a test tube the tank, open end down, and fill it with CO2. I know it wouldn't be very efficient, but on such a tiny tank, I thought it might be sufficient.

Opinions?

doubtful, very very doubtful. I would just use a 2l bottle of yeast to produce CO2 for a 5g tank.
