Hey, Rossigeo... Does anyone in your Mediterranean aquarium organization ever talk of setting up a supply of livestock to the US market? Or a source for trade?
Thanks again for the great post.
I'm sorry I'm reading so late your message... There are three or four companies around the Mediterranean Sea, but they supply mainly public aquaria; I don'tn know if they are able to sell to privates or abroad, according to italian and european regulations. As matter of fact there insn't a market here for mediterranean fishes or invertebrates; you can't find, in Italy or France or Greek, a shop selling animals of our seas. We usually collect animals by hands, without scuba equipment (it is forbidden by law to hunt fishes or invertebrates using scuba) or we contact professional fishermens: most of the debris coming from their nets is a treasure for our tanks. Otherwise we collect animals and rocks from the seabottom where small fishing boats stops to clean their nets.

Would you or anyone that you know of be interested in trading a small collection of specimens for study? I have access to properly and legally collected temperate aquarium plants and animals. Could we possibly ship them air freight?
Do you have any new cool pics?

beth its almost summer!!! yes!!!!
lol, what are you planing on keeping, and the eels that you saw were they american eels (Anguilla rostrata) or butter fish (Pholis gunnellus-"rock blenny-) and I don't know if there where you live, but have you seen the feather anemones?

I kept a cold water tank for about a year or so. I live in Portsmouth New Hampshire so the beach is a 10 minute drive for me. I started with a few rock blennies and hermit crabs. Then a baby summer flounder, finally ended up with a baby lobster which outgrew the tank and ate everything I put in there so I ended up releasing him this past winter.
