Coler's stopping smoking thread

DO IT , DO IT NOW, KILL THE CIG , KILL IT NOW . In an Arnold voice :)

Way to go Coler. All it takes is to decide that you want to quit and stick with it. I quit cold turkey and the first 2-3 weeks was about the toughest. Actually the first couple days is weird :(
Anyway it's a good thing . At first you count the minutes, then the hours , then the days ,weeks months and then the magic part comes when you FOGEDABOUTIT completely :) :) :)
It's been about 20 years since I quit. Went from 2 packs a day to none and never had another since.

DO IT FOR LIFE !!!!!!!!!!

Good luck Coler.

I also quit cold turkey several years ago. I think it's the best thing I ever did.

As part of my schooling I had to observe an autopsy (so cool) and I actually just did it on Monday. The guy was only 46 years old and had smoked 1 pack a day since he was a teenager. His lungs weren't as black as those pictured above, but I was shocked at what they did look like.

We also covered bronchogenic carcinoma (fancy name for lung cancer). The 5 year survival rate for small cell lung cancer (the kind smokers get) is about 5%. Forget saving $ for fish or a harley or whatever. You'll be saving your own life.

Cheezy rant over... GOOD LUCK!!!!! :)

Good man! Quitting smoking was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Starting smoking was the worst thing I ever did TO myself. You are joining a fine rank of friends who made the same good decision. My hat's off to you. It took me two trys to understand that all it takes for me is to smoke butt one cig to get me started again. Try not to make the same mistake I did. The addiction to nicotine may not be as hard to kick as the habits associated with smoking itself like the one in the morning with coffee perhaps and the ones when you drive or drink.

You can do whatever you set your mind to. I'm living proof. If I can do it.... blah blah blah blah..

Best wishes man... we are here for you.

Q

Are you doing this cold turkey? That's the only way I think. On day one I walked around with an unlit cig in my mouth half the day. Served as a pacifier of sorts. Toughest part was the morning coffee with no cig so the first couple of days I sucked the unlit cig while enjoying the brew. After 3 days or so it became easy. Just a maatter of making the decision.
I also quit drinking cold turkey. It got to be a habit having a stiff one after dinner. So I substituted coffee for a few weeks untill I forgot about the urge.
Good luck to you. Should get easier every day.

Humans have a very hard time trading off short term discomfort for long term gain. You can do it!

Acupuncture is very helpful for a lot of people to help with the cravings.

Way to go Coler!! Keep up being a quitter!!
