my lfs has what looks like a very nice colony of acropora sp.I am looking at adding it to my system but i would like to ask some advice on the color.7/8 branches are pure white(lovely and bright)but 4/5 branches on the other half are beige at the base but turning white at the outer edges. The coral looks very healthy but is the split color anything to worry about??

Thanks

Pure white sounds bleached to me. I am used to seeing beige, pink, purple, but white sounds bad to me. But maybe I'm missing something.

The colony you're talking about does not sound healthy, but I just wanted to point out that when it comes to acros, 'white' doesn't always mean 'bad'. As an example, this acro (cerealis sp., I believe) is bright white with purple tips and is perfectly healthy, but might look bleached to some people.

The two most important things to look for in a healthy acro are polyp extension and color retention. The fact that the specimen you're looking at isn't consistently colored up throughout leads me to believe there is some bleaching taking place. It's hard to say without a picture, of course, but I'd stay away from it.
