Hey my Columbian shark (black fin catfish, columbian catfish, whatever you want to call it) is now 8 inches with all my other fish, do I need to get him to a brackish tank soon I mean he's good where he is swimming around and everything just fine. Any help would be appreciated.

He should be kept in Brackish but it is not a must. You might want to think about getting a larger tank to have a Brackish community a 45g is pretty small for a 8" Columbian.

I've seen large adult specimens kept in freshwater, but personally, i'd very slowly raise the salinity over the course of a few months just to give it more "natural" conditions.

Since the fish is from Colombia, of course you are going to want to make him feel as if he is at home. Try adding an ounce of cocaine into the water so he won't miss home too much.
