I am trying to decide what kind of pleco to get. I was sure I was going to order a golden nugget but then I saw what was called a "Columbian Spotted Pleco" in my LFS. I have searched everywhere and have not seen or read anything about a columbian spotted pleco. Is there another name for this fish anyone knows of? This particular LFS is great about having the tanks correctly named and stocked so on their order form it must have said "Columbian Spotted Pleco".

It looks kind of like this but imagine its only 2-3 inches long, same coloration but it didnt look like a sailfin.

I think that they are the same as Gibbiceps plecos (Sailfins). There was a thread awhile back on Planet Catfish about them, someone said that they were 2 different species, but they look identical to me. They do get pretty large. How big is your aquarium?

Gold Nuggets are notoriously fragile (during transport). How long has the shop had them? If they have been there awhile, I would go with the gold nugget, but I am sure that it would be more expensive.

I have a 55g with huge driftwood and an xp2 filter; also a 30g with a wisper20 and topfin30 filters. Im going to start the pleco off in the 30g and move it to the 55g. Do you think at 3'' either the nugget or the columbian would be big enough for the 55g with my 6'' oscar?

I think the Gibby would get too large for the 55 gallon, but that's my opinion. They say gold nuggets get to be a foot long, I've seen a picture of a wild one that was about a foot long, but never seen one in captivity that size (thats not to say it can't happen).

As for compatability with the oscar, I have no experience with them, so someone else will have to help.
