Ahh, I get it now. Why does everything have to be so expensive? I am trying to stay legal here. I still have to sign into trutv with my comcast email for them to know that I pay for the channel on my actual tv.

So, away from all of that, does anyone have uverse? If so, what do you think of it?

I always see the comcast comercials about uverses old phone wires not being able to handle it, but think about it. Phone wires are used to transfer phone calls and they do it fast. Granted the ones used for uverse are the ones that are in the home. Ones that run across the country are different.

What would you do? But a digital converter from the store, rent one from comcast, or switch to uverse?

What site offers online tv for free without download?

That's why I said Google is your friend. Not necessarily to find a site, but to find a forum that focuses on and allows certain subjects. Not that there aren't any fully legal sites to watch TV on, like Hulu, etc. But when questions like this get asked on most forums who's main focus is unrelated to the subject, someone always responds with information of questionable legality, and the thread gets locked or completely deleted to protect the people who run the forum from any potential legal complications.

It sounds like what you're looking for is streaming TV, as opposed to download. Doing a Google search for "streaming TV" would be a good start to finding your answer.

Phone calls are very low quality, audio only transmissions. The difference in data transferred between a phone call and a broadcast quality TV show with high quality audio are immense. Not to mention the difference if the data is HD/Blu Ray quality with full surround sound audio. We're easily talking hundreds of times more data that has to come through the line. There's a reason why phone cable modems aren't used anymore, and have been replaced by coaxial cable, cat5 (ethernet cable), and fiber optics for internet/multimedia transmission.

That being said, phone jacks are still used with DSL, but ask anyone who's tried both DSL and cable internet, DSL is much slower.

Yeah, but it is really just used to tell the main cable box that is what it needs to send through the coaxial line.

No interest in sites anymore, just trying to figure out the cable situation. Buy a digital converter and stay with comcast, or switch to uverse at the end of the month.

What types of cables are good to used for digital conversion?
Coaxial cables are good or Comcast cables are good. Anyone suggest me.
Thanks!!

Comcast has pretty high quality cables, but they are only about 3ft long. I am sure you could ask a comcast guy to give you a longer one.

The comcast cables are coaxial cables, just really high quality. I am always wishing that I could just ask for more and not have to pay. I am getting tired of cheap coax cables having the ends break.

The difference between telephone and cable service is in the wire type, shielding, and diameter. You can often pick up more cable at a Radio Shack and sometimes WalMart.

Coaxial cables are available almost anywhere with electronics now. I even have a couple from the dollar store. For long ones (like 12ft and longer) it is usually cheapest to go to menards or another hardware store to get them. But, if you get comcast service, they provide some really high quality ones.
