My neighbor (sadly) is dismantling her 7,000g koi/goldfish pond. She has several neat fish, but she has this one beautiful comet. It's completely white (pinky-white) and it has long, flowing fins. I would say that not including the tail, it's about 6-7 inches long. A while back, I promised myself I would eventually get a goldy tank and now seems a good time. I have an empty 37 (same footprint as a 20L or a 29, just taller) and I have yet to set it up. I would overfilter it. If it really did get too big, I could put it in our pond, but I want it indoors.

There's no way a comet would be happy long term in something with that footprint. If your pond is only 70 gallons I doubt it would be able to house a comet either unless you have some odd dimensions. These fish get larger than a foot in length.

If you are to use the 37g you should just stick to a couple fancies IMO.

Sorry, but contrary to what many might advise, a 37 really won't cut it for fancies either. Keep in mind that a properly cared for fancy goldfish can get about as big as a good sized grapefruit, and what they lack in length compared to commons and comets, they more than make up for in mass. I may be in the minority with this one, but the absolute bare minimum for any goldfish long term would be a 55, and even then you're stretching your luck IMO.
