Community fish that don't need schools

Again if the tank is big enough a Distichodus is a Tetra that won't bother any of its tankmates unless they're a Distichodus themselves or a plant. For that matter there are plenty of larger fish that are often considered aggressive that in reality won't bother anything they can't swallow. In a tank full of large enough fish a 6' Alligator Gar is a community fish!

I keep a pair of platies in my tank. A lot of people say you should have the M:F ratio 2:1, but mine do fine. Two female platies would be OK as well. I wouldn't suggest swordtails, they're a lot more aggressive than you would think. Dwarf gouramis are pretty nasty in my opinion, I had a pair, but the male pulled an OJ...

I actually rekon platys are real troopers!
I've got them in 5 tanks with other fish.
5 with an angels.
4 with an angel
12 with a neon, lol
10 adults with 3 angels, 2 clown loaches, 7 rasbora-harlequins, 2 neons, 5 glowlights, 2 guppies, 1 swordtail female, all doing great!
platys are so hardy and well just real troopers. dont worry about any other fish- just food, always lively, brings alot of life and colour to the tank.

Seem to adjust to varying ph levels and hardness. though guppies prefer softer water.I dont like guppies any more.

AND the neons look stunning in groups of 10 -20 they school and swim as one.
always QT though!!
Sorry, just read your title! scrap the neons idea. :)
