I just posted it yesterday for which fish can be keep with which fish? Now I decide to have a community tank and most of them should be small fishes. Can someone give me some suggestion on which fish I should get for a 10 gallon tank?

Thank You

You can get the same color of the cadinal in a smaller fish with the neon tetra to me they look alike.

Also neon blue dwarf gouramis, cories, and khuli loaches, also glowlight tetras are nice.

also, heres a little formula for finding out how many fish can be in your tank.

Take the surface area of your tank( length times width), then divide that number by twelve for tropical freshwater, and that is the max inches of fish you can safely have in your tank. but when you use the inches make sure that it is the MAX inches it will grow to.

The reason that the inche of fish to gallon formula doesnt work is because surface area determines the amount of oxygen that dissolves in the water.

So for example. My ten gallon tank has a length of 20 in, and a width of 10. So multiply 20 and 10 and you get 200, divide that by twelve and you get 16.999999999 rounded out thats about seventeen inches.

All freshwater fish need about 12 sq in of space
All coldwater need27 sq in
And all marine need 47 sq in

Sertain fish though, like anabantids(gouramis and siamese fighter fish) can live in low oxygen conditions. The reason for this is that they have an auxillary breathing organ called a labyrinth. thats why siamese fighters can live in small cups and such.

good luck
:D :p

um.......... fishdude, I jsut have a question about ur litte formula. My 10 gallon tank's surface area is 20 inches X 10 inches, so I will get the number 200 and divide that by 12, so it's 17.

Does that mean I can keep 17 1 inch fishes in my 10 gallon aquarium? WOw, I can get 17 fishes which are 1 inches long in my 10 gallon in my aquarium......... If that's turth, YEAH!!!

Yeah, make sure to look at adult size. And most smaller fish like tetras grow up fast.

I would suggest getting 2 kinds of fish. A school of something small and a group of bottom feeder.

4 cory catfish (2 inches each when adult)

then a school of 6 small tetras, harliquin rasboras, cherry barbs

or alternatively some heavier fish like platies are a great peaceful and hardy fish. Or swordtails.

I would still suggest seeing what is available at your fish store then find a couple of fish types you like. Some will probably be not good choices for a 10 gallon tank, but many other will be.
