I have a tank with 4 neon tetras...1 cory catfish...2 gold fish and an alge sucker (don't remember what kind). I recently bought a small cichlid and introduced him to the gang. I put a nice rock/tunnel thing in the tank for him to hide in. So far he has not been a problem. Do you think he'll stay dossile? Or do you think he may become a problem. Thanks for your input.

I dont think it'll stay docile, this cichlid should be kept in a tank with just cichlids from lake Malawi. They prefer a pH 7.8/8.5

Best thing to do is, if possible, trade it in for an other fish.
A Microgeophagus ramirezi (Ram) would be a better choice

The Yellow Lab really doesn't belong in there.

Agreed,

That Yellow Lab will probably knock off the other fish or at least beat them up until they become sick. I would agree that the Yellow Lab needs to be removed from the tank. It's water parameter requirements are quite a bit different than what you have in the tank at this time as well.

Tomorrow I am going to get a 10G tank for the cichlid. Any advice on water conditions ect? I am currently doing research and know to keep alot of large rocks in the tank. Thanks for your advice.

Water conditions for Malawi Cichlids:
pH 7.9/8.4(essential) best kept in pH 8.2
kH 7/14 (essential) 8 is recommended (pH buffer)
gH 7/14 (not essential)
Temp: 77/80
Minimum tank size: 55 gallon, width at least 15.7 inches. Better 19 inches
Regular partial water changes: 30/45% weekly.
Filtration: at least 150gall. p/h
Powerhead for water surface movement (Aeration)
Substrate: preferably sand, or fine gravel.

If it is from Wal Mart chances are the neons will rip it apart.
