Have anyone successfully kept killifish with south american dwarf cichlids? I currently have 1 german blue ram (1.5") 1 bolivian ram (1.5") 2 Trilli Cories (.75") and 4 temporary (1") clown loaches (these guys are moving to a bigger tank once its set up in about 1-2 months ).

Would it be ok to add a Blue Notho (Nothobranchius patrizi)?

How much do killifish usually go for each? I found them for 12/ea at my LFS seems quite expensive; they are about 1.25" big; with lots of color. How many can I add for a 20g tank with my current inhabitants?

Watch the feeder shrimp tank for stowaway Seminole and Bluefin killis- you can often get them for little or nothing! They're a little bigger, though- 3-4" long.

Sorry, I can't help you with the rest. But killis have small mouths and are pretty inoffensive, so if your other fish are well-behaved, they probably would be all right. I think most killis are tolerant of a wide range of water conditions; many are even euryhaline.

i have 2 yellow panchax killies. they are probably full grown and are about 4 inches . They should be fine with the GBR, as i used to keep mine with a pair until i moved teh GBRs to their own breeding tank.

Killies actually have huge mouths for their size, i used to feed my ACF earthworms in my tank when he was smaller, and the killies would get to them first and devour them with one try. But it's still not big enough to do any damage to any full grown fish.

And another note, my 2 have just recently become aggressive.. well actually its one on the other, im thinking about buying another to spread out the aggression a little so i'd probably suggest either getting 1 or 3+.

Different species are different priced. The one you posted a link of i have not seen locally, but yellow panchax can be found for $5 a piece.... yet they aren't as colorful as some other species.

I got my gardneri killis at a local fish club auction $8/pair. I saw them for $12 each at a lfs. You might want to look at aquabid & clubs in you area.

I don't have much experience with killis but some are fin nippers. They have big mouths & mine tried to eat a shrimp almost 1/2 his size & close to his girth. I don't have them with other fish yet, I'm a little nervous about tankmates. They're in a 10g Q tank & spawn regularly.

I wonder if the ram's similar coloring might cause aggression either way.

I had a pair of garneri in with a pair of GBRs and they didnt even seem to care about one another.

I've got a blue steel killifish in my community tank and he has been fine for years, but recently he has been killing some of the "friendly" fish in my tank like my platies and neons.... I bought him a few years ago when i was inexperianced. I find he leaves my Cichlids (Cockertoo, Ram, Apistogamma) alone. He cost me £6.00 for a pair which is about $12 at the mo' but was more like $15 back then!!
