Hi. I am told that figure 8 puffers can be nippy. However, many people I know of have successful community tanks with these and angelfish. IN addition, the man at the fish store who is extremely knowledgeable says they will be absolutly fine together. Any thoughts?

F8 puffers prefer a brackish environment. angels on the other hand, i don't know if they can/cannot tolerate brackish water (someone else will clarify) although it is not impossible to keep F8's with certain other fish, they are agressive.

Salt doesn't help the slime coat, It's an irritant to the skin and as a response the fish will increase the slime coat. Also adding aquarium salt will not make brackish water you need to add marine salt for that. The angels will not tolerate a brackish enviorment so the two shouldn't be mixed. Will the puffer be nippy? That all depends on the puffer like people no two fish act the same. You may get one that will nip everything or one that's layed back and doesn't, But in general puffers will be nippy. So to answer the question no puffers shouldn't be kept in a community tank with angels.
well said, in fact, scaless fish like loaches are especially sensitive to salt, as it burn their unprotected skin.

How big of a tank do you have? There are plenty of fish that fit what you want, but we need to know the tank size before we can answer you.
