Ok let me start from the begining. I got a king betta earlier last week (Sunday night I got him and I put him in the tank monday afternoon). I'm not exactly sure why but he ended up passing away about 2 days later.
I didn't see any signs of illness at all. He ate maybe once for me but I thought he was just stressed from being put in a new environment.
So I tested my water and my water was good.
nitrates were between 10 and 20
nitrites were 0
ammonia was 0
ph was 7.0

So I went ahead and got another king betta. My new guy is doing alright. He seems to be getting along with the other fish I have in the tank. He's been eating good and has been active. He really seems to like the driftwood I have in the tank. I've seen him swim in and out of it a few times.

He tends to stay near the top of the tank behind the heater which kind of has me concerned, right now he's hanging out around the driftwood at the bottom of the tank, and his fins seemed to be clamped. When he's swimming his fins aren't clamped as much. Do you think he's going to be ok? I got him last week on thursday. So I've had him for a week. I did have an airstone going in the tank but I turned that off to see if he'd do better without the extra aeration.Should I be concerned about his behavior or do you think with time he'll be ok?

I did test the water tonight with my API freshwater master test kit.
Here are the results:
Ammonia: 0
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 0
Ph: 7.0
I have the temp at 80 degrees right now.
I did a partial water change yesterday. I gravel-vacced and did a 20% water change.

Here are 2 pictures of him:

Your betta looks fine and I don't think there's anything wrong. If he's eating and moving around then I wouldn't worry too much. Give him more time to settle in.

fins are definitely clamped and he's looking stressed. maybe give him a few more days to settle in.

you quarantined him before putting him in the main tank, right?

No I didn't quarantined him. Unfornately I don't have a hospital tank. I just don't have the room or the money to set one up at the moment. He's been acting normal. He's been swimming around the tank and he did eat when I fed everyone. I haven't seen any aggression in the tank at all. So i'm not sure what would be stressing him. I'm hoping he'll be ok in a few days. I'll definately keep a close eye on him.
