I had 2 conch's, one 3 inches, one 1 & 1/2 inch.

They were both doing fine, and suddenly I notice the smaller one's shell is empty.

I have 1 peppermint, numerous small hermits, 1 royal gramma, margarita, astrea, and bumble bee snails.

Anyone have an idea what happened to the conch?

umh is the big one a queen conch? One of their favorite foods are other snails. That's where I'd guess your other conch went and any other missing snails to.
sorry
Chris

I see 2 things that could have happened to him. 1) hermit wanting to trade shells. 2) bumble bee snails are predatory. One of them could have eaten it. Bumble bee snails can't eat algae because of the way they are made so I don't understand why anybody would want 1. Of course, I didn't know that when I first started. My ex brother-in-law gave me 5 of them. At the time, I thought, ummm what does he want. I later figured out he just wanted to get rid of them. I personelly saw a bb go after 1 of my other snails. I had to flick them apart.
Ps. the guy that gave me the snails also told me how cool it was to have an ananome on my new lr. Yup, you guessed it. Aptasia.

I don't know if they're Queen Conch's.

I wish I'd seen what happened. The conch's shell is just left lifeless, and empty. It was such a great algae and those other one-celled things eater.

Mak, not sure that the peppermint is big enough to go after your conch. Mine pick at a lot of my other inverts but, I'm really not sure if they do any damage or if they are just eating food that they have captured.
Was it the one that was hurt or the other one that's been eaten? I've seen them canabalising each other at my lfs . According to the sales staff it's not always a case of scavenging either sometimes it's active predation.
I hope this helps
Chris
