In the process of making a DIY styrofoam background with concrete, but want to add to that idea by making other parts too. For example, I will have a foam/concrete hill that must be glued to the front/right corner of my glass tank.

I don't want to just glue the foam on by itself b/c then the viewer will see the big, white foam instead of what should be "rock". Would silicone glue be strong enough to hold it with a very thin layer of concrete or should I use some sort of paint or marker (safe for aquariums of course) to color it and then glue?

I'm guessing I shouldnt glue the concrete directly to glass because it wont be strong enough, but wanted to see if anyone else has some insight.

Why not glue it to just the bottom of the tank? :)

10"x4" ... That's a possibility of 40 square inches of adhesion. How many square inches are holding your tank together? The edges of your tank are probably under alot more force from the pressure of the water than what a 10x4 piece of foam could produce.

Just my opinion.:)

whos going to be looking at the back of your tank?>

im currently working on one of these as well, and im keeping the back of mine free of cement so it can adhere easily.

there will be two pieces, one in the back and the other in the front. Yeah the back I wont care about color, but for the front the styrofoam will be showing.

I think I'll just put as much silicone on the bottom. Should work ok

Ahh didnt see that you were putting it on the front of the tank :)

I just purchased some marine epoxy from ebay, cost me $17 USD for 32Oz total (16oz each harder and epoxy) plus about $16 shipping to canada.

They claim the stuff the will adhere just about anything to just about anything else, as well as hardening underwater (that might have been a different product line from what i bought, but its all the same company)

that might work for you, well probably would.

Otherwise i might try using hotglue to glue the cement coated piece to the glass.

You got any pics of yours? as you have seen from my thread, im stuck with the shading and colouring, and id like to see what you did to yours.

im considering going over mine with one final coat of grout, tinted to some colour using paint.
Im just using things freely available to me.

the epoxy i bought to seal it up cost me the most so far :D
