Confused about the temperament of Pseudotropheus socolofi

yup...although I would have called 'em melanochromis auratus.

Pseudotropheus Demasoni if not stocked up at 1 or 2 males to 8 or 10 females is capable of being nutso....

Pseudotropheus Crabro is by all accounts a big fat jerk.

Generally a lot comes down to the personality of the individual fish and the fish that it is kept with though.
