Confused on ferts.

I see threads with online stuff and adding iron and all these options. I'm hesitant to buy it online since I had bad experiences with online buying.

For a complete newbie, can't I just go into Home Depot and buy solid ferts there? Do root tabs work?

I would not add fertilizers for terrestrial plants to an aquarium.

Root tabs do well for plants that feed haevily using their roots (swords, crypts) but stems plants for example do better with nutrients in the water column.

bare minimum is kh2po4 and plantex.

i use...
barr's gh booster because of ammonia in my tap and using rain water (yes it works it's the same water that'd keep them healthy in nature)
iron (fe) in my root tabs
kh2po4
plantex
and overstocking keeps my nitrates and phosphates up
if i have a reason to do heavy water changes (i have kids) i'll dose kno3 to bring my nitrates back up to avoid algae
