Congratulation President. OBAMA

I think it is wrong to attack Obama personally, or politically on this forum as it is against TOS.

However, I don't think it is wrong or against the rules to say that he doesnt' deserve the prize- being nominated days after taking office... and for "what he plans to do" rather than what he has done. Debate should be allowed- slandering him or needlessly bashing him politically maybe not.

Personally, I think he's a great guy and has good intentions- I won't get into politics though... ;)

That said Congratulations to Obama- but this really does cheapen the nobel peace prize- IMO... and I'm not saying that politically... I'm saying that philosophically...

It's all a popluarity contest these days. Everyone would wish for a better world- but it's all about acting on that wish... I'm not saying Obama won't or hasn't started to- but the prize is premature at best.

Agreed 100%.

Your post is an excellent one, good logic.

However, there is what Obama wants and then there is what the house and senate will let him have. Because of the "balance of power" between branches of government we have in the USA, congress can "block" the president and the president can "block" the congress. What someone needs to do is create the necessary conditions where something like universal health care will be taken as a vote of the people--no one can block that! If what Michael Moore says is correct, and approx. ~75% of the people wish universal health care--it would be a done deal!

Anyway, I digress, I think they gave Obama the prize because of what he, personally has done, attempted, says, etc. The opposition wants us to see their "effectively blocking him" as his "doing nothing"--the two are diametrically opposed! I think, as with most things, logic cuts BS like a hot knife through butter!

Regards,
TA

He's done nothing to merit a prize given for fostering world peace. If they give out prizes for pretty words or good intentions those prizes are of little real value, besides the fiduciary one to the recipient.

Technically, Nobel Peace Prize nominees can also be people who are intending or in the process of creating peace. This is unlike other Nobel Prizes which require actual accomplishment.

I don't think people can be too upset about Obama's award when they don't understand the qualifications and hold the award at too high an esteem. After all, the Nobel Peace Prize has had a history of controversial winners and omissions.
