Constipated. Need advice quick! Please post here again

I have used epsom salts for bloat/constipation before on discus I dosed the whole tank and raised the temp a couple of degrees. It can take 48 to 72 hours to completely clean out the fish. I use 1 tablespoon to 20ltrs of water and do water changes daily adding more epsoms salts to replace the stuff taken out in the water change. Also brine schrimp are great fibre for fish I give my fish live brine schrimp twice a week. Hope this helps.

Sorry lady.
Lol.

I'm going to start him on the epsom tonight. Are dried brine shrimp almost as good as live? I don't need another tank in my room, or a hatchery.

Dried brine shrimp should be ok but if you can get some live or frozen brine shimp that would be better. If you have to use dried try soaking it in medicinal parafin, glycerol or castor oil. I don't know whether you use gallons or litres just make sure the does is right 20litres is 5.28 gallons as I said before I used this on discus although their were other fish in the tank and it did not effect them at all. Also you could raise the temp to 82 to help the immune system. Also continue to feed him veges as this will help also. Also after he starts passing feces stop the treatment wait a day until he looks normal again and them do another WC.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Sorry just reviewed my notes the ratio of epsom salts to water is 1 tblspoon to 40litres approx 10 gallons. Not 20 litres as I stated previously. Sorry for the mix up.

Just to chime in, I've done the epsom salts trick, too, and it works great.

I just wanted to let you guys know that so far, there's no results. This is after the peas and the salt.

If the salt doesn't work, what kind of oil should I soak his pellets in? I think I have mineral oil, is that safe?

Dried foods will only add to the constipation. Try frozen or even better, live blackworms & up the Epsom salt to a tbsp/5g.

I hope the soaked food method works for you. I understand your frustration, my last two bettas had constipation problems. Try to resist his cuteness and feed him very minimal amounts!

Well, he died just now. I had him in the water with the salt and was soaking some pellets in mineral oil for later. I have a thermometer and a small heater in his hospital tank. The thermometer lied and it got too hot and I immediately tried cooling him down by cooling that water with ice, waiting a little bit and then changing it completely to cool water. He passed some poop but he was having seizures and his scales stuck out (gross...) and I kept raising him to the surface for air and moving him back and forth whenever he was on the bottom for a while but it's like he gave up all of a sudden.

I don't even feel like a want another betta. My last one died of a tumor, Slash just died because of all this all while my brother's who he neglects is about five years old. There's built up pellets that are moldy in there and no heater, he keeps his shades drawn so it's always dim but his survives and mine don't.

I'm so sorry, don't let this discourage you! RIP.
